CGD’s sustainable debt issue financed more than 5,000 companies

The issuance of 500 million euros of sustainable debt issued by Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) helped support more than 5,000 companies and 31,000 jobs, the financial institution reported on Wednesday.

According to the information released by CGD within the framework of the allocation and impact report of the entity’s first debt issue that meets the entity’s environmental, social and corporate governance criteria, the 500 million euro operation has had a “Positive impact on society by the financing of associates”. .

According to the institution, this operation contributed to the financing of 957 million euros of sustainable assets, of which 66% was made up of social impact lines and the rest was channeled to positive environmental impact measures.

According to the same source of information, the lines created to support micro, small and medium-sized companies financed more than 5,700 companies through the Covid-19 support lines, which made it possible to “support the maintenance of employment” of 31,400 workers. .

“In addition to allowing significant interest savings as a result of the early amortization of the Additional Tier 1 (AT1) issue carried out in March 2017 within the framework of the Capitalization Plan agreed between the Portuguese State and the European Commission, this sustainable debt it allows addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals”, says CGD, indicating that the financing lines focused on the environment avoided the emission of more than 85 thousand tons of CO2.
