Disciplinary Council of the FPF “does not consider” sanctioning a SportTV journalist

The Disciplinary Council (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) said Thursday that it does not consider sanctioning the SportTV journalist who questioned Sporting coach Rúben Amorim about striker Islam Slimani.

“The CD was obliged by the rules of the League regulations to initiate a disciplinary procedure, since it was included in the delegate’s report, but it does not contemplate sanctioning the journalist,” said an official source from the FPF CD.

According to the same source, it was decided to attribute an “urgent nature” to the process and it should also serve to “clarify an apparent constitutional breach” of the rule contained in the competition regulations.

On Wednesday, the Union of Journalists considered the process initiated by the CD of the FPF against a journalist “an attack on press freedom” for a question put to the Sporting coach, Rúben Amorim.

The lawsuit, initiated on August 30, occurred after a journalist from the SportTV channel did, in the quick interview area, at the end of the match between Sporting and Desportivo de Chaves (0-2) for the I Soccer League, a question to the coach of the ‘lions’ “outside the context of the match that had just ended,” the union explained in a statement.

The question, asked in the quick interview area, was related to the former Sporting player, Islam Slimani.
