The newspaper La Repubblica reported: “Italy plans to double the country’s natural gas production by 2023 to 7-8 billion cubic meters per year.”
Italy’s Minister of Environmental Transformation Roberto Cingolani said he would “submit a legislative document next week to work on the possibility of increasing production from existing fields”, stressing that “this measure will not affect the northern Adriatic, in particular the cities of Venice and Trieste.”
The Minister stressed that “it is necessary to allow the extraction of a small but significant amount of gas, from four to five billion cubic meters, from existing fields in order to increase the independence of Italy and allow the extractive companies to compensate for the effort they will make by providing our companies with gas at a reduced price.”
According to the newspaper La Repubblica, the increase in production will allow Italy to cover a total of 5% of the required annual gas volume.
