CTT launched this Tuesday a stamp of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and announced that all the money raised from its sale will go to support initiatives.
All profits resulting from the purchase of this stamp, and I invite all Portuguese to join in its purchase, will be used in favor of initiatives to support the people of Ukraine, in line with the position of CTT since the beginning of the war. in Ukraine. ”, João Bento, member of the board of directors and president of the executive committee (CEO) of CTT, told the Portuguese news agency.
“We were among the first to raise funds to send clothes to the Ukrainian border in the first days of the war,” said João Bento, who stressed that he maintains other aid initiatives for Ukraine.
CTT took advantage of the capacity of its network and organized a merchandise drive that allowed 40 tons of donations to be sent to Ukraine.
The launch of this stamp is a very significant symbolic moment, but also very practical, since it serves to raise funds for the Ukrainian population”, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho, present at the ceremony.
Gomes Cravinho also underlined that the ties between Portugal and Ukraine were already strong even before the war and that the Ukrainian refugees in Portugal: 52 thousand people, including 15 thousand children — “They are very welcome” and will be able to stay in the country “as long as necessary”.
Ambassador of Ukraine in Portugal, Inna Ohnivets, thanked “the support of CTT to the Ukrainian people”.
Inna Ohnivets also thanked the “strong support of the Portuguese Government for Ukraine” in all areas -political, military, economic and humanitarian- in the face of the Russian invasion.
The stamp, which has a blue background and a representation of a sun in the center, reminiscent of Ukrainian colours, will have a 0.95 cent face value and a circulation of 75,000 copies.
The launch ceremony for this philatelic piece, Rising Sun, took place at the Palácio das Necessidades, in Lisbon.
