TAP crew members must confirm strike in assembly and threaten new strikes

The National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC) told Lusa that it expects this Tuesday’s general assembly to confirm the strike on Thursday and Friday at TAP and threatens new strikes.

“What I expect from this assembly is to confirm the days [de greve em] 08 and 09 [de dezembro] Y, most likely, more days of strike“, the president of SNPVAC, Ricardo Peñarroias, told Lusa.

TAP and the unions are in negotiations for the revision of the Company Agreement (AE), within the framework of the restructuring plan.

Dissatisfied, TAP crew members, in the emergency general assembly of the SNPVAC, on November 3, decided to go ahead with a strike on December 8 and 9as well as “to reject outright the proposal for a new company agreement (AE)” presented by the airline, which they consider “absolutely unacceptable and manifestly reductionist”.

In statements to Lusa, in anticipation of the general assembly of associates that will decide whether to maintain the strike announced for this week, Ricardo Peñarroias accused the company of having an “irresponsible” position for having withdrawn the proposal that had been discussed with the union, on November 15 and 16, and for not having shown “any type of willingness to dialogue, to resolve the conflict.”

“The company unilaterally decided to end the negotiations, the union was always available to negotiate”, said the president of the SNPVAC, warning that the affiliates will interpret the position of TAP as an “iron arm” that, “probably, will have consequences.”

Asked about the expectations regarding the impact of the strike, the union leader considered that “basically 50% of the strike is already achieved”since TAP decided to cancel the 360 flights on Thursday and Friday.

The union claimed on 21 November that TAP had submitted a proposal to cabin crew, but was unable to review it within the deadline set by the airline.

In a statement sent to the affiliates, to which Lusa had access, the SNPVAC management reported that on November 15 and 16 it “met with the company’s Administration, with the aim of resolving the existing conflict between the crew and the TOUCH”.

According to the same note, “after two intense days of meetings – where both parties constructively sought solutions to resolve the dispute – TAP formalized proposal on November 18????????

“Despite being a proposal that we immediately consider insufficient -since the company does not abdicate certain positions-, it would be our intention to take it to the consideration of the Associates in the AG [assembleia geral] of December 6”, said the SNPVAC, indicating that, however, “along with the formalization of the same, an ultimatum came to the SNPVAC that, or the consultation of its members was scheduled until November 22 [terça-feira]otherwise it would not make sense for the negotiated proposal to be formalized”.

The airline decided to cancel 360 flights on the days of the strike, which affected some 50,000 passengers and a loss of eight million euros in revenue, after having already informed customers that it allowed the dates of the flights scheduled for the days to be changed. strike, without any fine.
