Efacec privatization advances with five candidates

The Government approved the opening of the second phase of the sale of Efacec, passing five companies to the next stage.

Mariana Vieira da Silva, Minister of the Presidency, announced, after being questioned at the press conference, that the Council of Ministers approved the opening of this second phase. And that the five companies that “made proposals” go to the next stage, “with a view to presenting binding and improved proposals.”

He did not mention a calendar or list the companies that go to the second phase, but according to Eco, Sodecia will have submitted proposals in consortium with Visabeira, Mota-Engil, the Oxi Capital fund, the Mutaris fund and Oaktree. In the communiqué of the Council of Ministers, the Government confirms these names. “The resolution that determines that a second phase of the direct sale of the shares representing the capital stock of Efacec Power Solutions be carried out was approved, with a view to presenting improved binding proposals, identifying the five bidders who are admitted to participate: Mota-Engil Capital; Iberian mutations; Oaktree Capital Management; OxyCapital; Association constituted by the companies Grupo Visabeira and Sodecia”

It is now with the five candidates that negotiations for a final version will take place.

The Government sells a section of 71.73% of Efacec, after having nationalized that section in 2020, after the Luanda Leaks. That position belonged to Isabel dos Santos. This is the second attempt to sell the company after the first failed. In this first process, DST was a finalist, but in the end there was no conclusion.
