The Portuguese Company of Águas Livres (EPAL) guaranteed this Wednesday that its quality control plan complies with the parameters defined by the European directive and that the analyzes prove “the excellent quality of the water” in the Lisbon region.
In recent days there have been reports in the media questioning the quality of the water supplied by EPAL.
In a statement sent to the Lusa agency, the company that supplies the Lisbon region stressed that “the surveillance/control of water quality throughout the supply system (…), from the water resources used to the point of delivery with the consumer, constitutes one of the greatest commitments of EPAL”.
Specifically, EPAL stressed that research on PFAS (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl compounds) is provided for in the European directive on the quality of water intended for human consumption and added that, within the scope of its Water Quality Control Plan ( PCQA), carries out “the systematic search/monitoring of the 20 PFASs provided” in the directive.
EPAL has also explained that the quality of the water supplied ‘in high’ to the municipalities and distributed to the direct consumers of the city of Lisbon is ensured “through the analysis of more than 25,000 water samples per year”.
“These samples are taken at around 1,500 representative sampling points of the entire supply system of the company, where more than 300,000 analyzes are carried out to verify compliance with applicable legal requirements, which makes it possible to demonstrate the excellent quality of the water supplied. by the company and compliance with current regulations. legislation, thus granting a quality seal granted by ERSAR [Entidade Reguladora dos Serviços de Águas e Resíduos] to the water consumed by around 3 million people”, the company also highlights in the press release.
