Left bloc accuses the French president of a decision “worthy of dictatorships”

The coordinator of the Bloco de Esquerda, Catarina Martins, described this Friday as “authoritarian and worthy of dictatorships” the decision of the French president to approve the reform of the pension system without going through the National Assembly.

“Emmanuel Macron decided to use an article of a law to be able to raise the retirement age without going through parliament. It is an exceptional, authoritarian measure, worthy of dictatorships. That is European neoliberalism, going over democracy to steal the pensions and salaries of those who work”, criticized Catarina Martins, during a commemorative dinner for the 24th anniversary of the Bloco de Esquerda, in Braga.

The pension reform advocated by the government of President Emmanuel Macron includes raising the retirement age to 64 from the current 62.

France. Protesters block streets, Praça da Concordia scene of clashes and “Macron at the stake”

Macron pushed through the reform of the pension system on Thursday, bypassing the National Assembly, using an article of the Constitution that allows him to avoid parliamentary approval.

For Catarina Martins, this is a “authoritarian attack on work”it can’t go anywhere.

“Emmanuel Macron and the authoritarian attacks against work cannot happen anywhere, neither in France nor in Portugal,” said the blockista leader.
