Strikes on the railway begin this Tuesday and last until the end of April

Several unions begin this Tuesday new strikes in the railway sector, which will include Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) and CP until the end of next month, including a 24-hour day, on April 6.

According to a statement from a platform of unions, with representation in CP and IP, the protests begin this Tuesday, with a “protest blackout”, that is, a strike in IP and CP from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

From this Tuesday, March 28 to April 4, there will be an IP strike from 00:00 to 02:00 and Until April 30, the unions will strike in IP and CP from the eighth hour of serviceaccording to the same note.

In addition, between this Tuesday and April 30 “in CP, the workers whose normal work day covers more than three hours in the period between 00:00 and 5:00 hours, will declare a strike from the seventh hour of service” and between April 10 and 30, in the IP, “the workers whose normal work day covers more than three hours in the period between 00:00 and 5:00 hours, will declare a strike at from the seventh hour of service”. On April 6, the strike will last 24 hours.

The train drivers of the CP return to the strike from April 1 to 30

The unions that make up this platform are ASCEF – Union Association of Intermediate Railway Operations Managers; SINFB – National Union of Railway Workers of Braçais and Allied; SINFA – Independent Union of Railway, Infrastructure and Allied Workers; FENTECOP – National Union of Transport, Communications and Public Works; SIOFA – Independent Union of Railway Workers and the like; ASSIFECO – Independent Trade Union Association of Commercial Railroad Workers; and STF – Railway Technical Services.

According to the statement, the structures foresee disturbances in the circulation of trains in CP, Fertagus, Medway and Takargo. “The strikes will affect the conservation and maintenance of the railways and roads, as well as the maintenance of the trains and all the operations of the aforementioned companies,” they indicated.

According to the unions, “On April 6, if minimum services are not decreed, trains are not scheduled to be carried out in Portugal.”

“Responsibility for the impact, whether economic or social, derived from these forms of struggle It will be the full responsibility of the Government that, by not negotiating with the unions, neglects the IP and CP workers and disrespects the Portuguese citizens who use rail transport on a daily basis”, they lament.

The National Union of Machinists of the Portuguese Railways (SMAQ) also announced a new strike at CP, throughout the month of April, due to the “autistic and inconsiderate attitude” of which it accuses the company.
