The Minister of Justice expects an understanding with the bailiffs “in the very short term”

The Minister of Justice said this Wednesday that she expected an understanding “in the very short term” between the Government and the bailiffs, who on Wednesday began a strike until May 5 promising the approval of the Bailiffs Statute.

“We hope to understand us very soon with the unions so that we can solve this problem. We are working on it. We are working daily on the Sheriff’s Charter. Therefore, we will surely find a solution here”, said the minister, who participated in the opening of the BUPi 2023 Annual Meeting, in Batalha, in the Leiria district.

Catarina Sarmento e Castro stressed that the strike that began this Wednesday is “a right” of judicial officials, “a form of struggle properly called a strike,” in a “classic way”.

The bailiffs begin the classic strike this Wednesday, which will be “much more harmful”

“Since the right to strike is exercised in a classic way, the Ministry of Justice respects it,” the minister wished, “that it not have the consequences that it had and that we all saw before, that it was not a form of struggle that we could.” call out”.

On the resolution of the dispute, the Minister of Justice assured an understanding: “I have no doubt [de um entendimento em breve]”because “as the Government has already assumed, we are going to implement” the Statute of the Bailiffs.

“Basically”, highlighted Catarina Sarmento e Castro, “there will be a meeting of wills. The bailiffs will have their statute and the Government will have its approved statute.

In Batalha, regarding the complaints that extend to various sectors of society, such as Health and Education, the minister recalled that “challenging is a constitutional right.”

“Yesterday [terça-feira] We celebrate April 25. I am the daughter of a generation that worked hard so that her children and grandchildren had the right to demonstrate, the right to assemble, the right to strike. The Government respects all these forms of struggle”.

And he concluded: “The Government will do what it has been doing: look to the horizon and the fulfillment of the goals that it has proposed to achieve. There are objectives in the government program that was supported by the Portuguese and for that we are working”.
