Electricity and gas prices with historical highs in the European Union in the 2nd semester of 2022

According to the EU statistical service, between June and December 2022, the average price of electricity for domestic consumption rose to 28.4 euros per 100 kilowatt hours (kWh), compared to 23.5 euros in the same semester of 2021, and that of gas advanced to €11.4 per 100 kWhwhich is compared with the year-on-year price of 7.8 euros per 100 kWh.

Eurostat points out that after record values ​​reached record values, with the rise in energy prices triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine (22 February 2022), the measures taken by Member States to mitigate the escalation no longer contributed to stabilization. of costs

The share of taxes in the cost of electricity has already been drastically reduced from 36% to 16% on the EU average (-18.3%) and for gas from 27% to 14% (-15, 8%), relieving domestic consumers, but, warns Eurostat, overloading public accounts.
