Suspended sentences for former Social Security employee and husband for embezzlement RSI

The Porto Court sentenced a former Social Security employee and her husband to suspended sentences for having embezzled close to 66,000 euros of the Social Insertion Income (RSI), reported the Oporto Attorney General’s Office (PGRP).

In a note published this Monday on its website, the Porto Attorney General’s Office (PGRP) states that the woman was sentenced to four and a half years in prison and her husband to three and a half years, both with suspended sentences.

The single sentence resulted from the legal accumulation of the partial sentences applied to the defendants for the practice of crimes of qualified illegitimate access, qualified computer forgery and embezzlement.

The defendants were also sentenced to pay the State some 66,000 euros, as criminal benefits, and also some 62,000 euros related to the amount claimed by Social Security.

The events occurred in the period between 2011 and 2019, the date on which the effects of the disciplinary sanction of dismissal of the Social Security worker began.

The judgment of May 24 showed that the two defendants had seized public money for a global amount of 66,663.61 euros, through the artificial creation of procedures for attribution of family benefits, that is, RSI attribution processes.

According to the accusation, the amounts of said installments were paid into bank accounts of the defendants or third parties or were withdrawn in cash.
