Route with 777 km of track is assumed as a new tourist product in the North

A “great circular route”, 777 kilometers long and that runs through the entire northern region, crossing 35 municipalities, was publicly presented this Wednesday, in Esposende, by a youtuber from the region.

“This is a tourism product, connecting two epic roads (National 103 and National 222) and which aims to combat the asymmetries between the coast and the interior and generate wealth for the entire North”, Marco Neiva told Lusa.

It is called Ruta del Norte and it is an adventure, with no starting or ending point, to be done by bicycle, motorbike, car or motorhome. The route covers the regions of Minho, Trás-os-Montes, Douro and Porto, crossing eight districts and 35 municipalities.

It also passes through national routes 13, 218 and 221, which, adds Marco Neiva, form the “golden ring of great travelers”. “The idea is to create a tourism product that is for the North what the EN2 is for the whole country”said the mentor of the idea.

Already available at rotanorte.pt and on youtube, the project will also have a guide with all the information about the must-see places and reasons along the route, such as monuments, landscapes, customs, traditions, gastronomy and accommodation. The guide should be ready next year. An interactive digital map and a digital tourist passport are other components of the project.

In a start-up phase, the product is mainly promoted in the interior, but the objective is to project it beyond the borders, taking advantage of the proximity to the Sá Carneiro airport and the different “contact points” with Spain.

According to Marco Neiva, the inaugural tour will take place over the next four days, with 30 participants, who will serve to collect photographs for the future guide. “This is a tourist product that has already aroused the interest of municipalities in the region and the Regional Tourism Entity itself,” guaranteed the youtuber.

He explained that the public presentation was held in Esposende, since this is the only municipality where the route passes twice, that is, on the EN13 and EN103.
