The worker committees of the Autoeuropa industrial park revealed this Friday that the production stoppage at the Volkswagen factory in Palmela has already caused the dismissal of 291 workers, but the SITE-Sul union affirms that 560 dismissals have already occurred.
According to the coordinator of the Business Committees (CT) of the industrial estate, Daniel Bernardino, the companies in the park have already confirmed the dismissal of 191 precarious workers, in addition to the 100 workers that Autoeuropa also dismissed, although the latter with money-back guarantee as soon as production resumes.
According to the data available from the CT Coordinator, in addition to the 100 precarious workers fired by Autoeuropa, There are also layoffs of temporary or fixed-term workers in the companies Benteler (40), Faurecia (3), KWD (28), Palmetal (20), SAS (40), Simoldes (20) and VANPRO (40), which represents a total of 291 layoffs.
The CT coordinator of the industrial park also admits that the number of dismissals of precarious workers could increase significantly since there is still no data available from companies such as Rangel, Isporeco, Nova Coat and Schnellecke, in addition to other smaller ones.
In a statement released today, SITE-Sul, the Union of Workers of the Manufacturing, Energy and Environmental Activities Industries of the South, guarantees, however, that 560 workers in the industrial park have already lost their jobs and that many of them will be left without any monthly income. .
“According to the survey that SITE-Sul carried out so far, 560 workers have already lost their jobs and the vast majority of them do not even have the right to unemployment benefits, leaving them without any monthly income,” says the statement from this union structure. , adding that “many more workers will lose their jobs early next week, as there are still companies negotiating with worker representatives.”
In the statement, SITE-Sul also criticizes the alleged “intransigence of the administrations of Volkswagen Autoeuropa and some supplier companies” for not guaranteeing full payment of salaries during the stoppage of production.
The union also argues that the current situation is due to “management errors on the part of the Volkswagen Group”, due to its dependence on a single supplier and the use of the Just In Time system, in which the delivery of components for production is made by suppliers. in the exact location, eliminating the need for large storage capacity in the factory.
Autoeuropa begins a nine-week production stoppage this Monday, from September 11 to November 12, due to the difficulties of a supplier in Slovenia, which was seriously affected by the floods that occurred in early August in that country.
The administration of the Volkswagen group’s car factory, in Palmela, in the district of Setúbal, like other companies in the industrial estate, decided to resort to dismissal
The company, however, reached an agreement with the workers and will guarantee the payment of 95% of salaries during the productive strike, but in the industrial park there are companies that will apply salary cuts of 5%, 10% and 33%. Among the 19 companies in the Autoeuropa industrial park, according to the CT coordinator, only Faurecia must maintain full salary payment, since the company is a supplier to other automobile brands and not only Volkswagen.
