Reports to the Treasury increase by 50% in 2023 to almost 7,000

The number of complaints received by tax authorities in 2023 increased by 50% compared to the previous year, reaching 6,954, and two-thirds reported situations related to omitted income.

The information on the complaints and claims received by the Tax and Customs Authority (AT), specifically by the Anti-Tax Fraud Unit, is contained in the report on the fight against tax and customs fraud and evasion for 2023, published this Tuesday.

Of the 6,954 complaints about possible tax violations, The majority (4,936) were redirected by other public entitiesand 2,018 by external entities, including individuals.

Among the facts of the complaint analyzed by AT, Around two-thirds (67%) refer to situations related to the omission of incomefollowed by irregularities related to leasing (11%) and billing (10%).

Compared to the 4,618 complaints about participation received in 2022, the omission of income remains the main reason, but possible irregularities related to leases increased compared to the 5% they represented in that year.

The Government must submit to Parliament the annual report on the fight against tax and customs fraud and evasion before the end of June of the year following the year to which it refers, and the document must include the results obtained, in particular as regards the value of the additional payments made and the amount recovered in various taxes.
