CIP welcomes measures to put Portugal “on the path of sustained growth”

On Thursday, the Portuguese Business Confederation (CIP) welcomed the package of measures “Accelerating the Economy”, approved by the Council of Ministers, which it described as a “clear effort” to put the country “on the path of sustained growth.”

“The CIP welcomes this first announcement of positive measures for the economy, integrated into the ‘Accelerate the Economy’ programme, presented this Thursday by the Government. The set of measures made public by the Ministry of Economy reflects a clear effort to put Portugal on the path of sustained growth,” it said in a statement.

Among the 60 measures announced on Thursday, the Confederation highlighted, for example, the gradual reduction of the corporate income tax rate, the reduction of the payment terms of the State to suppliers, the streamlining of the analysis of requests for incentive systems, the definition of a strategy for sustainable reindustrialisation or the launch of a programme for the defence economy.

The business confederation also encouraged the executive of Luís Montenegro to pursue the ambition evident in the program“filling in some gaps that it would be important not to forget.”

This involves the introduction of public policies that promote productivity and changes in the labour market, “bringing Portugal closer to the legal framework that prevails in the most developed and competitive countries in the EU.” [União Europeia]”or the debureaucratization of the State.
