The multinational Exlabesa, world leader in the manufacture of industrial aluminium components, is opening this Thursday a production unit in Portugal, in Soure, Coimbra district, with an investment of 25 million euros.
According to a note from the municipality of Soure, sent to the Lusa agency, the company, which is dedicated to the extrusion of aluminium (a process of hot transformation of this material, which is then moulded into various components), began the investment more than 12 years ago, “but only in the last two years has it had a decisive phase of implementation”, without resorting to community funds.
HE investment of around 25 million euros (ME) enabled the creation of 120 direct jobs.
The new Soure plant is located on a 8.6 hectare site (approximately the equivalent of 10 11-a-side football pitches) with a covered area of one hectare. It has two 2,800-tonne aluminium extrusion lines and an annual production capacity of 16,000 tonnes of extruded profiles.
It joins nine other production centers around the world —located in the USA, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Germany, Poland and Morocco—from where the multinational aluminium company provides its services 16,000 customers in 40 countriesin the areas of civil construction, automobile, transportation, infrastructure and renewable energy.
Founded in 1966, 58 years ago, Exlabesa has made “a constant investment in technology and advanced production means” in recent decades, having “unique production capacities in its sector” of activity, the note adds.
The statement also notes that Exlabesa has “an ambitious expansion plan in Portugal”, valued more than 45 million eurosmore than tripling the surface area of the current covered facility, with a view to Annual production of 45,000 tons.
Therefore, according to the statement, the The multinational “has already bought two more lots in the industrial zone of Soure”in a space adjacent to the current one, and is finalizing the project that hopes to reach 200 jobs.
The official opening of the Soure factory, which has been in operation since 2023, is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Thursday, presided over by the Secretary of State for the Economy, João Rui Ferreira.
On the other hand, the municipality associated this organization with the opening ceremony of FATACIS – Soure Handicraft, Tourism, Agriculture, Trade and Industry Fair, within the framework of the São Mateus Festival, which runs until the 24th.
