Government doubles the amount allocated to empower victims of domestic violence, says minister

The Government will double the budget for the empowerment of victims of domestic violence to 300,000 euros, the Minister of Youth and Modernization announced this Friday, denouncing cases of victims who return to their attacker’s home due to lack of economic capacity.

“Recognizing the importance of this support, we decided to double the amount of this response. 150 thousand euros will continue to come from social games, but now there are 150 thousand euros financed directly by the State Budget, for a total of 300 thousand euros for the autonomy of victims of domestic violence,” the minister announced.

Margarida Balseiro Lopes guaranteed that “one of the Government’s main priorities is to guarantee that victims of domestic violence receive the necessary support to be able to rebuild their lives with safety and dignity.”

“We know that the autonomy of these victims is essential to definitively break the cycle of violence, allowing them to achieve true independence and avoid being revictimized,” he highlighted.

He explained that in August a payment of 149 thousand euros was made “which is intended to autonomy fundor” and that next year there will be another equal amount.

“We think that we cannot have this type of support only through income from social games and we have to give a clear signal that this has to be in the State Budget and, for the first time, we will have 150 thousand euros registered for autonomy. “, said.

He stated, on the other hand, that he is aware that this budget reinforcement will not solve all the problems, but maintained that this will allow “these responses to reach more people and for more victims to have access to the resources they need.” “We need to be able to rebuild.”

In terms of domestic violence, the minister stated that the State Budget also includes the transportation of victims and telecare, which will allow “the release of income from social games” and, in this way, support other projects that arise and that “ “They have an impact on society.”

Regarding domestic violence, the minister said that within a few weeks it will be possible for a victim of domestic violence to have access to health care outside their area of ​​residence and with full guarantee that their personal data will not be monitored. data. .

It also said it has reactivated the 72-hour task force, which has met regularly since September, and that the review of the risk assessment form will be completed by the end of this year.

Margarida Balseiro Lopes also highlighted that with this State Budget “the largest investment ever made in the fight against domestic violence” was made, to which a global budget of 26 million euros was assigned.
