The far-left social networking site Twitter shut down the hot topic over the weekend after BuzzFeed reporters contacted the tech company.
The trend is “Ellen Page,” the birth name of a transgender actress who now calls herself “Elliot Page” and is asking other communities to do the same.
Page’s original name became popular after academic bestselling author Jordan Peterson was banned from his account for refusing to reveal his identity. Juno the new name of the player. Peterson has promised not to delete his tweet and will remain banned from his account until he or Twitter surrenders.
After “Ellen Page” became popular on the platform, far-left news and entertainment site BuzzFeed took to Twitter to ask why they weren’t censoring it. In response, Twitter immediately censored the trending topic.

After BuzzFeed News contacted a Twitter rep, Page’s dead name is no longer trending. Twitter spokesperson Trenton Kennedy confirmed that the site has removed the title as a trending one.
In a statement to BuzzFeed News, Kennedy reiterated the site’s policy and said it was a mistake to trend Page’s dead name.
“The term you mention should not appear in Trends and has since been removed and banned from appearing in Trends,” Kennedy said. “Our teams are constantly reviewing our internal processes to prevent this.”
Elliot Page later became a trending topic, with many of the tweets supporting the actor and protecting him from transgender harassment.
Although Twitter took the trend off and “Elliot Page” eventually emerged as a trending topic with tweets supporting the actress and her life choices, BuzzFeed presented the story from a platform perspective that couldn’t stop her from trending. BuzzFeed headline: “Twitter allows Elliot Page’s dead name to trend despite hate policy.”
