The organizers of the more mundane, magic-free version of Quidditch say they have a real sport on their hands. But now they distance themselves from the legitimate inventor of the sport and change the name of their game because Rowling doesn’t allow men dressed as trans women to play sports against innate women. “This is an important moment in the history of our sport,” Chris Lau, chairman of the IQA board of trustees, said on Tuesday. “We are confident in this step and look forward to all the new possibilities the quartet will bring.”

However, a response to Rowling’s public stance on transgenderism may not be all it takes for a name change. There is probably an ulterior motive.
