The life of the singer Adriano Correia de Oliveira is now told in BD

The life story of the musician Adriano Correia de Oliveira is told in a comic strip, “The Dangerous Pacifist”, by Paulo Vaz de Carvalho and João Mascarenhas, which will be published this month, when the intervention singer would have turned 80 years old.

The comic is a joint edition of the A Seita publishing house and the Adriano Correia de Oliveira Artistic Cultural and Sports Center and is one of the initiatives to mark the anniversary of the birth of the musician, who died 40 years ago, on October 16, 1982.

“The chain of ‘stories’ gives us the pleasure of looking at fragments of history that make us think. Scenes and scenarios that the elders will remember, and that upon the discovery of those who came after, and will come, they give themselves over to oblivion”, wrote the essayist and musician José Barata-Moura in the prologue of the book.

“The Dangerous Pacifist: Histórias de Adriano Correia de Oliveira” recovers episodes from the life of the intervention singer, particularly in Coimbra, where he entered the University to study Law and where he saw the doors open for political, social and cultural intervention.

Adriano Correia de Oliveira, who released the first album, “Noite de Coimbra”, in 1960, actively participated in the academic struggles of 1962 to challenge the political regime of the dictatorship, a fact that, together with the colonial war, censorship and emigration He began to be mentioned in the songs he sang, such as “Capa Negra, Rosa Negra”, “Pedro Soldier” and “Exílio”.

Crossing testimonies of those who spoke more directly with him, the book “shows a funnier and more human side of one of the most important Portuguese voices of the second half of the 20th century,” the publisher stressed in a statement.

The script is signed by Paulo Vaz de Carvalho, teacher and guitarist who accompanied Adriano Correia de Oliveira on stage.

The edition of this cartoon is accompanied by a CD with seven songs performed by Adriano Correia de Oliveira, among them “Trova do vento que passa”, “Cantar de emigração” and “Tejo que Levas as Águas”.

“The dangerous pacifist: Stories of Adriano Correia de Oliveira” joins a program that marks the 80th anniversary of the musician’s birth, joining other initiatives such as concerts, exhibitions and gatherings, which will last until 2023.

Last November, the Adriano Correia de Oliveira Artistic, Cultural and Sports Center launched a petition for the musician’s work to be classified as a work of national interest, having gathered nearly 2,900 signatures.

Adriano Correia de Oliveira released six albums between 1967 and 1980. Posthumously, he was decorated Commander of the Order of Liberty, in 1983, and Grand Officer of the Order of Infante D. Henrique, in 1994.
