Sam Gendel, Mieko Suzuki and Heather Leigh will be at the Ephemeral Gardens, in Viseu

The artists Sam Gendel, Mieko Suzuki and Heather Leigh will have their first solo performance in Portugal during the Jardins Efémeros festival, which will take place from July 8 to 16, in Viseu, the organization announced today.

Back in the historic center of Viseu, the festival will feature the participation of Sam Gendel (United States of America), a “producer and musician with a genius ability for practically any instrument”, as well as the sound artist and composer Mieko Suzuki ( Japan/Germany), which will bring to Viseu “very unconventional shows, transforming any space into a ‘playground’ of sound adventures”.

The ‘musician’ and composer Heather Leigh (United States of America/United Kingdom), “known for her captivating live performances”, in which she “promotes the vast unexplored ranges of guitar and voice”, is another proposal.

Among the first names in the field of sound announced by the organization for the tenth edition of the Ephemeral Gardens are also the ‘e-poet’ AGF (Germany), which “shows its productions of poems and sound sculptures ‘online'”, and Hatis Noit (Japan), “Japanese vocal artist who is inspired by Gagaku and operatic styles, Bulgarian and Gregorian chants, avant-garde and pop”.

“All the artists mentioned will make a unique presentation, in the Iberian Peninsula, in the Ephemeral Gardens”, and “Sam Gendel, Mieko Suzuki and Heather Leigh will have their first solo performance, in Portugal”, underlines the organization, showing convinced that these names “will attract Portuguese visitors, and not only to the center of the country”.

The promise is to once again turn the historic center of Viseu “into a meeting place for local, national and international artists”, by holding an event that has a “strong multidisciplinary component”, bringing together visual arts, architecture , cinema, sound, dance, theater, polis, markets and workshops.

It is “a program of an urban, contemporary and experimental nature”, in an edition whose theme is uncertainty.

Patrícia Portela was invited to write the manifesto/editorial for Jardins Efémeros which, according to the organization, “is in itself an artistic reflection on uncertainty, the motto that will run through the different dimensions of the festival’s programme”.

“Patricia Portela’s poetic text speaks of fascination, moments and encounters, overcoming obstacles, destiny and passions. We say gifts,” she adds.

Patrícia Portela was the artistic director of the Teatro Viriato, in Viseu, and is currently the artistic director of the Associação Cultural o Prado (of which she is a founding member).

The organization Ephemeral Gardens claims to believe “in decentralization through experimentation and art.”

“Not only coastal cities, but also cities in the interior of the country, can be centers for the creation and presentation of exploratory artistic programs, with a large number of audiences. That has been our contribution”, he emphasizes.

All the activities of the Ephemeral Gardens are free and free. The rest of the program will be announced soon.
