Sara Correia among the first confirmations for this year’s Womex music fair

Fado singer Sara Correia is among the first 23 artists confirmed for the ‘showcases’ program of the 28th edition of the Womex international music fair, which this year takes place in Lisbon in October, the organization announced.

Among the first 23 confirmed artists, in addition to Sara Correia, are the Malian Ali Bilali Soudan, the Norwegian Daniel Herskedal, the Brazilian Lia de Itamaracá, the Spanish Israel Fernández, the Malagasy The Dizzy Brains, the South African Pilani Bubu and the Indians Rangamatir Baul, according to the Womex organization.

The official program of the fair “is drawn up from a set of proposals received from around the world during a public competition, open to any artist residing in any country in the world.”

This year, in total, the organization hosted “more than 1,600 conferences, showcases and film proposals”.

The 28th edition of Womex takes place from October 19 to 23 in Lisbon.

In March, at a press conference, it was revealed that the programming will involve cultural spaces such as the São Luiz Municipal Theater, the Coliseu dos Recreios, the São Jorge cinema, LAV – Lisboa Ao Vivo and Capitólio, and that it will have about 3,000 programmers, producers and journalists from all over the world.

The 2021 edition of the international music fair took place the last week of October, in Porto, for five days, mobilizing more than 2,600 professionals from the sector. It featured the performance of more than 60 artists, around 200 stands and representatives from more than 100 countries.

The realization of the two editions of Womex in Portugal has the participation of the municipalities of Porto and Lisbon, Tourism of Portugal and the Ministry of Culture.
