Curtas de Vila do Conde gained status very quickly by shortening its name to Curtas, bringing the nomenclature closer to the purpose of the film festival. Short films are not minifilms, they are not smaller films, they are not the little brother or a test tube. They are complete and larger works that deserve all the attention. The way we think about our use of time and money, they are not entitled to the usual commercial display. On television, spaces have their place and on several occasions they captivate the audience more due to their animated side. This year Curtas reaches its 30th edition and, to celebrate, the festival takes place in 30 spaces in the municipality of Vila do Conde. Because when we say Curtas, we always know that it is in Vila do Conde.
This edition takes place between July 9 and 17 and returns with the usual sections of national and international competitions, a cycle of retrospectives, previews and the usual film-concerts. Many regulars pass through the screens, some with a name conquered thanks to the festival, such as Tsai Ming-liang, but also many new names that always offer an attentive look at national production and, above all, at the now, that now of what what is to come Here are some highlights of this year’s calendar. The complete program can be consulted on the festival website.
