The executive of the Braga City Council will appreciate, on Monday, a motion to support the city’s candidacy for the European Capital of Culture (ECC) 2027, the municipality announced this Friday.
The members of the municipal bodies of Braga thus express their support for the formalization of Braga’s candidacy for the CEC 2027, in accordance with the budgeted principles present in the candidacy file; the approval of the multi-year framework of investments planned for the 2023-2028 time horizon and the implementation of each of the actions provided for in the application file, if Braga is designated CEC 2027″, says the municipality, in a statement.
According to the municipality, headed by Ricardo Rio, the reinforcement of the planned financial investment is around 10 million euros in 2023, five million in 2024, four million in 2025, 1.2 million in 2026, five million in 2027 and 425 thousand euros. in 2028.
“Given the dimension of this initiative and its transformative capacity, the support of all the political forces represented in the executive and in the Municipal Assembly is very important for the success of this candidacy and its execution,” highlights the Chamber of Braga.
In this sense, adds the municipality, “Follow-up meetings were held to prepare the request and presentation of the final proposal for the project dossier, highlighting the evolution that has occurred in relation to the pre-selection phase, both in the artistic program and in the details of the proposed governance model and, also, in the reinforcement of the investment financial institution of the municipality of Braga”.
The Chamber of Braga considers that the European Capital of Culture “is one of the projects of the European Union with the greatest public recognition by European citizens, and one of the initiatives with the greatest impact on the cultural and economic development of the territories that it encompasses”.
This is an excellent opportunity to regenerate cities, raise their international profile and improve their image in the eyes of their inhabitants. It allows to breathe new life and promote a cultural transformation of the territory, its communities and partners, and promote a national and international network of collaborations and synergies”, maintains the municipality.
The cities of Ponta Delgada, Braga, Aveiro and Évora are finalists for the European Capital of Culture in 2027, having been chosen from among 12 municipalities that submitted a candidacy.
The final selection and announcement of the European Capital of Culture 2027 is planned for the end of the year.
