The art historian Laura Castro was re-elected, for a period of five years, as regional director of Cultura do Norte, a position she has held since 2021, according to the appointment published in Diário da República.
After the bidding procedure, Laura Castro was appointed to the position of regional director of the North Regional Directorate of Culture (DRCN), on secondment, for a period of five years.
The order of appointment enters into force as of May 12.
The art historian, professor and researcher succeeded, in April 2021, the museologist António Ponte, who in February of the same year was selected to direct the Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis, in Porto.

Laura Lucinda de Oliveira Castro has a PhD in Art and Design from the University of Porto (UP) — Faculty of Fine Arts (2010), Master in Art History from the New University of Lisbon — Faculty of Social and Human Sciences (1993), and Graduated from the UP – Faculty of Letters.
She is also a professor at the Escola das Artes of the Portuguese Catholic University, of which she was director between 2013 and 2017, and a researcher at the Center for Research in Science and Technology of the Arts of the same faculty, indicate the published biographical data. in Republic Journal.
Between the early nineties and 2006, he worked at the Porto City Hall and collaborated with the Matosinhos City Hall. He is a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA) and the Portuguese Association of Art Historians (APHA), to which he belonged between 2005 and 2009.
He is also a member of the founding council of Lugar do Escolha-Fundação Júlio Resende, and was on the board of directors of this institution between 2009 and 2014, and between 2019 and 2020.
He was also president of the board of the Círculo de Cultura Teatral/Teatro Experimental do Porto, between 2015 and 2020.
