Global warming from human activities could kill 1 billion people in the next century. This conclusion was made by Canadian scientists from the University of Western Ontario.
The estimate is based on the calculation that burning every 1,000 tons of fossil carbon will result in one premature death.
According to the estimates of Washington State University experts, by 2200 the world population will be approximately 10.4 billion people. It follows that possible losses from the climate crisis could account for 10% of the total human population.
According to the authors of the study, the negative outcome can be avoided if we improve energy conservation, move from fossil hydrocarbons to greener fuels, implement carbon waste management technologies, and replace subsidies in the energy sector with emissions taxes. Source
