The AmadoraBD Festival begins this Thursday and is dedicated to the theme “Humanity”

The Amadora International Comic Festival begins this Thursday with 15 exhibitions and celebrations, such as the 50th anniversary of April 25, 1974 and the 60th anniversary of Mafalda, Quino’s character.

The Amadora International Comic Festival reaches its 35th edition, once again centered on the former Amadora Ski Skate Park, now called Parque da Liberdade, where most of the exhibitions, the book fair and the space for authors.

This year, AmadoraBD is dedicated to “Humanity” themewith exhibitions “that exalt the values ​​of democracy, freedom, justice and equality”also related to the 50th anniversary of the ‘Carnation Revolution’.”

Among the exhibitions is one dedicated to the album “Elviro”, which earned designer Paulo J. Mendes the award for the best work by a Portuguese author at AmadoraBD in 2023, and another that reviews the work of Brazilian author Marcelo D’Salete. , which will be in Portugal.

La AmadoraBD It also opens the doors to the world of Mafalda.created by the Argentine author Quino and published for the first time in 1964, it exhibits caricatures and humorous drawings published for 80 years by the sports newspaper A Bola and will host individual exhibitions dedicated to the cartoonists Nuno Saraiva and Cristina Sampaio, in the Artur Bual gallery.

In addition to Marcelo D’Salete, AmadoraBD will feature, among others, the Dutch author Aimée de Jongh, author of “Dias de Areia” and an adaptation of “The God of Flies”, and the South Korean Keum Suk Gendry-Kim. , whose four biographical and historical graphic novels were published in Portugal last year: “Await” and “Erva”.

Within the festival The Amadora Comic Book Awards will also be announcedon Sunday the 20th, and several editorial launches are planned, such as “Fernando Pessoa – The Boy Who Dreamed”, by André Morgado and Tainán Rocha, and “O Punhal”, by Nuno Duarte, designed by João Lemos, Osvaldo Medina, Rita Alfaiate and André Caetano.
