Latakia, one of the strongholds of President Bashar al-Assadally of the Lebanese Islamist movement Hezbollah (Party of God), is near the Russian Hmeimim air base.

Russia, Syria’s ally, maintains military forces and resources in several regions of the country.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH), a non-governmental organization based in the United Kingdom and which has a wide network of sources in the country, stated that today’s attack targeted “a weapons depot in Latakia.” .

On the night of October 2-3, the observatory reported drone attacks on another ammunition depot near Jablé, about 20 kilometers further south and closer to the Russian base at Hmeimim.

Israel intensified attacks on Syria while intensifying military actions in Lebanon, where it carried out attacks on Hezbollah strongholds.

Since the civil war broke out in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of attacks against the Syrian army and against Tehran-backed movements, particularly Hezbollah, that support government forces.

Israeli authorities rarely comment on the attacks on Syria.
