The La Vernia Independent School District in the San Antonio area voted this week to allow armed teachers to defend a classroom as part of the swsseddsdsw Guardian program in Texas.
The Texas School Board Association presents the Guardian program:
Under the federal GFSA and the Texas Penal Code, school districts may authorize any person, including authorized employees, to carry firearms on campus.18 USC § 922(q)(2)(B)(v); Texas Penal Code, § 46.03(a) (1) (A). A person who obtains written permission from the school district to carry firearms on school property, not according to the firearms license, 46.03. Tex Att’y Gen. Kiss. Number. GA-1051 (2014).

The KSAT states that teachers wishing to teach must meet the following requirements:

20 hours of classroom activities

20 hours range
-
Pass the annual psychological exam

Already has a transport license
-
Submit for random drug tests
Jason Breithaupt, a parent from La Vernia, said in support of the Guardian programme: “The bad guys seem to take up their guns every hour. So if someone is willing to protect my child, I’m all for it.”
“There may also be a school marshal for every 400 students who can carry a gun in Texas schools,” says FOX News, in addition to the Guardian program.
