The few months after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine were not as successful as expected for Russia. The Ukrainian army is led by the states and NATO.
In an interview with AL Radio’s FM Talk 106.5 program Mobile, Rogers spoke about the situation, which he said was positive. However, he stressed the importance of a good Ukrainian performance against Russia, saying it would prevent further Russian aggression and a possible Chinese aggression against Taiwan.
“It’s a pretty positive event,” he said. “And I want your listeners to understand that they should be held accountable for how good it is in Ukraine because the US military, along with our NATO allies, has been training its armies in Ukraine since 2014. I went there right after the capture of Ukraine in 2014. We just set up training camps. The Ukrainian army I saw then was the shadow of today. They are not a professional army as far as we can see, but we spent eight years there training them and above all their leadership, which made them a large professional army. And this is one of the main reasons why they effectively pushed the Russian army back .
“I am very pleased that we finally convinced Biden to send deadly aid to them, but I want to emphasize that together with my colleagues in the Senate, in October I forced the administration to provide deadly aid before aggression and we can get through it. them,” Rogers continued. “But Biden calls it that. He didn’t want to do this. He felt it would be a provocation and an escalation. Either way, it finally gave them the help they needed. Ukraine has now regained its position. They stopped the attack in Kharkov, Donbass. They got it from the Russians. I fully expect Ukraine to win this war and I do not want Ukraine to give up any territory as part of any ceasefire with Russia. The result was a traumatic loss for Russia. I think that’s the case.”
“But it’s also important for us to remember that Ukraine must win because of its message to China about their willingness to invade Taiwan, which will be a real problem for us, because we don’t want Russia to succeed there, and then from the NATO countries that provoked our intervention.” We think they can capture someone and we don’t want boats on land,” he added. “We want Ukraine to win and send a signal to Russia that such overt aggression will not succeed.”
