California Democratic Party Secretary Melahat Rafiee has resigned from her state and national duties after she became involved in an ongoing investigation into alleged bribery in negotiations between the city of Anaheim and the Los Angeles Angels stadium.
Los Angeles times said on sunday:
Accused of trying to bribe government officials as part of a growing federal corruption investigation, Rafiee is also resigning as a member of the Democratic National Committee. She did not respond to a request for comment Sunday, but admitted in a letter to being an undercover witness in an FBI investigation into the alleged $320 million sale of land at Angel Stadium.
Federal investigators in the case said they believed there were fraud, bribery, obstruction of justice, witness interference and other forms of corruption in the negotiations between Anaheim and the Angels regarding the proposed sale.
The city’s mayor, Harry Sidhu, has faced growing calls for the FBI to resign in an affidavit that is most likely to commit multiple crimes during negotiations. In affidavit, the Angels owner Arte Moreno or Major League Baseball team is not accused of any wrongdoing.

Corruption has become a constant problem in California Democratic Party politics at both the state and local levels, as party control over government creates opportunities for self-enrichment. Many candidates in 2022 are promising to bring order to their communities, both literally in terms of homelessness and metaphorically in terms of crime and corruption.
