PJ arrests man suspected of throwing ‘Molotov cocktails’ on parliament steps

The Judicial Police (PJ) announced this Wednesday the arrest of a 30-year-old man, who last January threw five handmade incendiary bombs on the steps of the Assembly of the Republic, during a protest against the measures adopted against Covid-19.

According to the PJ, the National Unit for the Fight against Terrorism (UNCT) arrested the man on Tuesday, who is prosecuted for the crimes of coercion of constitutional bodies, qualified damage and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The investigation dates back to January 2, after the launch that day of “Molotov cocktails” on the stairs leading to the Assembly of the Republicwhich led to the identification of the suspect and his arrest.

The defendant, with a criminal record, was heard in the first judicial interrogation in the Lisbon Criminal Investigation Court, but the coercive measures that will be applied to him are still unknown.
