The newly formed Opposition Project aims to connect those fleeing socialism with young Americans to learn about the “evils of socialism.”
“Americans today are taught in school many bad ideologies such as fascism, Nazism, slavery and other oppressive regimes. But they don’t know about socialism,” Daniel DiMartino, director of the Opposition Project, told Breitbart News. “This ideology has killed more than 100 million people in history, the most. And this is still the main oppressive ideology that controls many countries. ”
According to their website, to achieve its goal of educating young Americans, the project aims to “connect those with first-hand experience of authoritarian socialism with their student body.”
DiMartino from Venezuelan socialist Nicolás Maduro, that his project Gov. Ron DeSantis (right) wants high school students to learn about the dark stories of both socialism and communism.
In a press release, DiMartino said the bill also requires students to “hear first-hand stories from immigrants … like us, who have suffered under socialist regimes abroad.”
“Last year, I learned of Florida’s HB 2 bill, which requires high schools to include socialism in the curriculum. Recently, they have also asked to include first-hand testimonies of post-socialist survivors,” he said. “I went to events and colleges to talk about how socialism destroyed my own country in Venezuela and changed my life.”

In one of his presentations at a public high school in DiMartino, Massachusetts, he said, “There is a moral need to teach young Americans the bad aspects of socialism, and we must make it free for schools to do. I don’t have to bear the cost of travel.”
He partnered with Young Voices, a nonprofit media company for millennials and millennials, and launched Project Dissident to “send surviving young socialists to high schools in America for free.”
The DiMartino project raises the question of what kind of market there is in the United States for what his group has to offer, and what forces it is resisting.
When asked who was the real culprit behind the pro-socialist slogans in America, DiMartino simply replied, “Unfortunately, our own educational institutions.”
“I saw it myself when I was in college in Indiana,” Breitbart told News. “People drop out of high school not knowing what socialism is doing in Eastern Europe or China, or what it’s still doing in Cuba and Venezuela. And when they go to college, some professors think that socialism is a good thing and the solution to all of America’s problems.
“They’re also trying to lie to the Americans that this country is bad and unjust,” he continued. “The truth is, America is one of the most prosperous and meritocratic countries, if not the most tolerant, compared to the rest of the world.”
“The real problem is that socialism is simply not taught in most public high schools,” he added. “So young people are vulnerable when they step into college or hear a politician believe their lies. They did not know what the Holodomor was, what socialist regimes promised, what rhetoric they were using. So they fell into the same lie.”
Going forward, DiMartino plans to expand his project nationwide.
“We start with eight speakers from four countries: Cuba, North Korea, Venezuela and Hong Kong,” he said. “We will attend several dozen schools this school year, depending on need. And this year, we will recruit more dissidents from any other unrepresented country.”
“Our goal is to give high schools the most comprehensive personal experience of socialism ever created,” he continued. “The uniqueness of the Dissident project is that our speakers are young immigrants from socialist countries with unique experiences.”
“Our teens allow us to connect with student audiences better than other speakers because our message to students is that when they grow up they can be in our place for a few years,” he said. “We are not partisans and Americans just want to feel grateful for their freedom and fear the ideology that is destroying our countries of origin.”
