The value of water consumption from the public supply network used by the residents of Gondomar to fight fires in September will be deducted from the bills of affected consumers, the City Council announced this Saturday in a statement.

The municipality of the district of Porto “agreed with the concessionaire Águas de Gondomar to apply this measure to mitigate rising water bills associated with this emergency,” says the publication on the municipality’s website.

“This support, which will be granted without the need for a formal request by those affected, will result in the application of a credit note for the abnormal water consumption observed during the fire period recorded between September 16 and 19,” the statement details.

To this end, “the municipality provided Águas de Gondomar with the geographical delimitation of the affected areas, and the concessionaire is calculating the water consumption of clients residing in these areas in the month of September, comparing the values ​​with those of the same period of the year. previous year,” the press release continues.

Once the difference in consumption is determined, this will be translated into “a credit that will be discounted on the next bill, and this discount will also cover the other components usually associated and indexed to the water bill, specifically those related to sanitation and urban waste, direct responsibility of the municipality, and other fees,” it also reads.

The agreement between the council and the concessionaire also includes the firefighters, the parties defining that “all water from the public supply system used by firefighters to fight fires in the municipality will not be subject to any payment.”

According to the municipality, in the period from September 16 to 19, more than seven million liters of public watercost that will be borne entirely by Águas de Gondomar.

In the statement, the two entities also highlight “the good coordination between all entities involved and the resilience demonstrated by the water supply infrastructure,” revealing that “during that period of calamity, the concessionaire’s employees remained on the ground, in support of operations. to firefighters, helping to ensure that water is always available in the tanker truck supply network to fight fires.”

The fires affected parishes in the upper municipality of Gondomar, such as Jovim, Covelo, Medas and Melres.
