  • Iran’s supreme leader says Hamas is ‘alive and will remain’

The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, affirmed today that the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas is “alive and will continue to be,” despite the death of its leader Yahya Sinouar in an Israeli military operation.

The death of the Hamas leader “is certainly painful for the resistance front” against Israel, “but it will not completely end with the martyrdom of Sinouar,” the ayatollah said in a statement.

Yahya Sinouar “was a brilliant figure of resistance and struggle” against Israel, Ali Khamenei said. “He faced the cruel and aggressive enemy with unwavering determination and struck him in the face with tact and courage,” he added.

Yahya Sinouar is considered the architect of the Palestinian Islamist movement’s unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which has since plunged the region into bloody conflict.

  • Drone attack on Netanyahu’s house but the Israeli prime minister was not inside

Israel confirmed today that a drone that hit Caesarea was targeting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private residence in that city, but that neither he nor any member of his family was in the house.

“A drone was launched against the prime minister’s house in Casareia. The prime minister and his wife were not at the scene and there were no injuries in the incident,” says a statement from Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, cited by Efe.

The AP adds that the drone was launched from Lebanon.

A drone attributed to a Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah militia attacked the Mediterranean coastal city in central Israel, and two others were intercepted.

“In the last hour, three unmanned aerial vehicles were detected crossing Lebanon towards Israeli territory. Two of them were intercepted and a third arrived in the Casareia area,” states a statement from the Israeli army.

During the incident, sirens were also activated at the Glilot military base.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s vacation home in Caesarea has been the target of numerous protests by Israelis over the past two years.
