Carlos Moedas defined as a priority the rehabilitation of the municipal districts of the city, which are under the management of the Gebalis company. In this sense, after a first program contract of two million euros, this Wednesday a program contract that provides for more €40 millionshared until 2026, for the rehabilitation of 12 municipalities.
The value, although it is the highest in a single program contract, is below what was executed by the previous executive (45.9 million euros between 2018 and 2021 according to Gebalis reports and accounts), but has found, according to the observer, guaranteed approval.
For the Observer, Mayor Carlos Moedas speaks of “a long road”, pointing out that the “housing heritage of the municipality needs investment and maintenance”, but says that the proposal that will be approved “is a clear example of one of the priorities” that says “I have always assumed them”.
“I have been to many places in Lisbon that are not in the best conditions. It is a long road ahead, but we have to face it. We want to recover houses in poor condition, or even uninhabitable, and allow them to be reoccupied by the most needy families in the city. This is an ambitious and very important program in the social area.”
But with an initial planned memorandum budget lower than that executed by Medina, there are opponents who question the amount. João Ferreira, from PCP, considers that “value does not follow needs”, but emphasizes that “the most important thing is that it be quickly available to the company for the renovation of the different municipal districts”.
Another factor to consider for the communist councilor is the question of rate of inflation: “The nominal value is already lower, which is worse if they are real values, considering the rate of inflation.” The PS calculates the number of houses that will be possible to rehabilitate with the 40 million euros of the mandate and the balance is not positive: if Moedas does not reinforce this amount, there may be more houses to rehabilitate in the end. end of the mandate of those that exist at this time.
