The former leader of the PSD wanted to remain a deputy in full office, but he was not present at the meeting in which the new president was presented to the parliamentary group. In the meeting, behind closed doors, Montenegro made an intervention -according to what several deputies reported to the Observer- to ensure that he has the “open door” for all deputies, whether supportedeither those who did not support it. The new president of the PSD tried, above all, to eliminate potential stress points on the parliamentary bench.
Luís Montenegro wanted to demonstrate to the deputies that trustworthy in them and that he was almost one among his peers. “Dear colleagues, he even said, to later justify that he had been a deputy for 16 years and that, therefore, he felt at home. He then made himself available to receive everyone and recalled that —in addition to the office in the nearby party headquarters, on Rua de São Caetano à Lapa— there will be a cabinet in the Assembly of the Republic. “He tried to lighten the mood with those who were not with him,” a deputy close to Luís Montenegro told the Observer.
