Basta wants the Assembly of the Republic to have a report available each year in October on “what went wrong, the percentage of burned land and what failed in terms of operational control” in the fires in the country. The announcement was made by André Ventura, at the end of a morning during the party’s parliamentary session where education was discussed.
The news is already reporting the revival of one of the fires that has devastated Portugal in recent days and Ventura assures that the party “challenge all opposition” to reach a consensus. “We are at the beginning and we already have a mess in the SIRESP, in the coordination of Firefighters, Civil Protection and MAI,” accused the Chega leader.
“It is something that we can agree on in Parliament and it is something that even the Government could be interested in working on, so that we do not have new criminal cases every year, such as new investigation processes, proposals for investigation commissions”, he is stressed.
Considering António Costa’s comment about the “handymen” in the fires in Portugal as “joking”, Ventura says that, in addition to not being entirely in line with reality (given that not all fires have a human hand), it is also supports Chega: “We really have to do something.”
Addressing the Minister of the Interior Administration, José Luís Carneiro, who on Monday considered that “there is no justification” for classifying arsonists as “terrorists”, André Ventura says that the minister “is very wrong” and that “it starts badly” . . “In 2020, of all those arrested for arson, 20% are repeat offenders. The Minister is very wrong.
