HEY. PS considers the predictions “positive and very encouraging”

The PS considered this Thursday that the macroeconomic forecasts of the European Commission, which review the growth of the Portuguese GDP for this year, “are very encouraging” and “constitute a stimulus to continue the work of relaunching the national economy.”

The Socialist Party takes note with satisfaction of the forecasts, revealed today by the European Commission, of a growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 6.5% at the end of the year, above the 5.8% estimated initially published today by the press room of the PS.

According to the PS, “these The numbers reveal that the Portuguese economy remains at the top of the economic growth list in 2022as one of the countries of the European Union that can best resist the impacts caused by the war in Ukraine”.

In the statement, the Deputy Secretary General of the PS, João Torres, highlights that the data released by the European Commission “indicate that the policies to promote economic recovery, associated with measures to mitigate inflationary pressure, promoted by the Government, have contributed to the resilience of the national economy.

These predictions are positive and very encouraging. They constitute a stimulus to continue the work of relaunching the national economy. The PS and the Government remain focused on boosting economic growth, promoting more and better jobs and improving the income of the Portuguese”, says the Assistant Secretary General.

For João Torres, the macroeconomic forecasts of the European Commission, by placing “the Portuguese economy at the top of the list of economic growth in 2022”, are “a significant fact that corroborates the economic policies developed by the Government, even in a context of uncertainty”.

The European Commission revised upwards the growth of Portuguese GDP for this year by 0.7 percentage points, to 6.5%, which places the country as the one with the greatest expansion, according to macroeconomic forecasts published today.

Brussels forecasts that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Portugal will grow by 6.5% in 2022, when in May it expected an expansion of 5.8%.

This forecast is more optimistic than that of the Government, which expects an expansion of 4.9%, and places Portugal not only growing above the average for the Eurozone and the European Union, but also as the country with the greatest expansion.

In these forecasts, the European Commission also revises Portugal’s inflation rate by 2.4 percentage points, to 6.8% this year, although below the 7.6% forecast for the euro zone.

According to provisional macroeconomic forecasts, the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) is expected to rise in Portugal from 0.9% in 2021 to 6.8% in 2022, before falling to 3.6% in 2023.

In May, Brussels forecast that inflation in Portugal would rise to 4.4% in 2022 and fall to 1.9% in 2023.
