The vote was so unexpected that even the president of the Lisbon Municipal Assembly hesitated to announce that the proposed amendments to the SRU program contract had been “failed with the abstention of the PSD”. The leader of the PSD caucus, Luís Newton, also warned in the speech that the proposal did not represent “the New Times”, but it does not seem to have been enough warning to prevent lead.
After approved by the councilors of the Novos Tempos coalition in the Executive last Thursday, the proposal with several dozen supplements to the program contracts previously held by the Urban Rehabilitation Society, this year’s proposal 379 has now failed in the Municipal Assembly as a result of the abstention of the Social Democratic municipal deputies. In other words: the PSD collapsed the PSD.
In the pulpit, Luís Newton insisted on emphasizing that the PSD always focused, while it was in opposition, “on repudiating the management model of the SRU itself” and, even with the leadership of the SRU in the hands of Nuevos Tiempos, the differences seem insurmountable. .
“The commitments are made and the Lisbon City Council will have to be a good person, but we want to emphasize what we have already said in the past that this is not the model we support, this is not the will that the New Times represent“, said the municipal deputy of the PSD.
In a vote that breaks the Novos Tempos coalition for the first time, with the CDS voting in favor and the PSD helping to lead the proposal with abstention, Luís Newton stated that “there are no substantive changes in the operating and management model of the SRU same”, which “continues to worry” the municipal deputies of the PSD.
The SRU passed into the hands of the Social Democrats with the transition of the Executive in the autarky and Filipa Roseta, responsible for the housing portfolio, inherently assumed the position of non-executive administrator.

Even with the alderman guaranteeing in the Municipal Assembly that “the entire Board of Directors of the SRU is fully available” to maintain “the greatest possible transparency”, the proposal ended up stalled. It was rejected with the votes against by the Bloco de Esquerda, PEV, PCP, Livre, Chega and the president of the Parish Council of Benfica, Ricardo Marques, the abstention of the independent deputies of the PS, PAN, IL, PPM and PSD, only the CDS, the MPT and Aliança voted in favor of the proposal to add to a set of mandate contracts signed with the SRU.
