The Government will reinforce the already announced support for farmers affected by this year’s rural fires. The information is sent to the Observer by an official source from the Ministry of Agriculture. At the end of July, the guardianship of Maria do Céu Antunes announced a sum of 500 thousand euros “to support farmers in the acquisition of animal feed”. Now, the value will be reinforced. The restart of the fire in Serra da Estrela contributed to the decision.
Farmers and growers will be able to apply for this support without having to wait for the fires to end. The regulations are contained in an ordinance that will be published soon and, according to an official source from the Ministry of Agriculture, this support booster will be announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The exact numbers are not disclosed. Even so, the guardianship of Maria do Céu Antunes has already explained that “The payment of aid to farmers will be made on the basis of damage surveys carried out by the respective Regional Directorates of Agriculture and Fisheries”.
In the statement released at the end of July, the Government also provided “support to beekeepers, with the supply of six tons of food for bees, which will be distributed in conjunction with the National Federation of Beekeepers.”
