The Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho, is in kyiv this Wednesday to reiterate Portugal’s support for Ukraine on the day the country celebrates the 31st anniversary of its independence.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports in a statement that João Gomes Cravinho has just arrived in the Ukrainian capital for an official one-day excursion.
Ukraine marks six months since the Russian invasion of its territory on February 24 with an exhibition in kyiv of military equipment destroyed by the enemy.
The six months of the war coincide with the 31st anniversary of the independence of Ukrainedeclared on August 24, 1991.
The head of the Portuguese diplomacy thus points out “in crazy this important and symbolic date, reiterating the support and cooperation of Portugal to the country at war”, says the note.
The MNE also reports that after visiting the memorial in honor of the victims of the conflict, João Gomes Cravinho met with his counterpart Dmytro Kuleba.
In early July, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal unveiled a plan to rebuild Ukraine with a 10-year investment of 750 billion dollars (more than 746.6 billion euros at current exchange rates).
The investment includes costs of necessary reforms concerning Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
The plan was unveiled at a conference in Lugano, Switzerland, where nearly four dozen countries, including Portugal, and institutions signed a declaration on the guiding principles for Ukraine’s reconstruction.
Portugal will participate, with other countries, in the reconstruction of schools in the Jitomir region, about 150 kilometers from kyiv, where it is estimated that some 70 educational establishments have been destroyed.
