PAN wants explanations from the Government in AR about the departure of Interpol and Europol from the PJ

The sole deputy of the PAN will request the presence of the Minister of Justice in Parliament to explain the Government’s proposal to remove the offices of Interpol and Europol from the Judicial Police.

In a statement released this Friday, Inês Sousa Real considers that this intention “is a blunder by the Government, when crimes increasingly have an international dimension and are highly complex.”

This type of decision does not demonstrate any vision on the part of the Government to proceed with structural reforms, but rather anticipates an incomprehensible tendency to ‘dismantle’ the services”, criticizes the spokeswoman for the People-Animals-Nature party, reminding the opposition. unions in the justice sector.

Inês Sousa Real indicates that she is going to “submit a request for a summons from the Minister of Justice” to parliament so that Catarina Sarmento e Castro can rule on the matter.

For the PAN, “the centralization of all the offices and channels of international cooperation, which cover sensitive issues, in a structure equivalent to a Secretary of State and which reports directly to the executive is a dangerous path and should be avoided.”

The information that is obtained, disseminated and processed goes beyond administrative police information, being of a secret and reserved nature as it comes from ongoing criminal investigations under the jurisdiction reserved to the Judicial Police and, as a general rule, under judicial secrecy. , emphasizes Souza Real.

The PAN leader also added that in the discussion of the next State Budget “she will fight with the Government so that it makes a commitment and investment in the Judicial Police, whose financing has been much lower compared to the other police forces.” .

Europol, at a European level, and Interpol, at a global level, are structures that provide information of a criminal nature to the different police forces, in a cooperation aimed at combating various types of crime, including drug trafficking, bank fraud, money laundering and arms trafficking.

According to the Public newspaper, there is the intention of the Government to place the national offices of Interpol and Europol under the responsibility of the Single Point of Contact for International Cooperation (PUC-CPI), a structure controlled by the General Secretariat of the Internal Security System.

The government’s intention, the newspaper said, is contained in a bill submitted by the government to the Assembly of the Republic and implies a revision of the Organic Law of Criminal Investigation, as well as modifications to the Internal Security Law.

The President of the Republic admitted on Thursday that he had sent this government proposal to the Constitutional Court “if he has any doubts” about its constitutionality.

In an interview with Diário de Notícias, also broadcast on Thursday, the secretary general of the Internal Security System rejected that this change promotes possible interference by political power and guaranteed that the leadership will be permanently assigned to the PJ.
