The Association of Ukrainians in Portugal thanked Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho on Friday for the support that the country has given Ukraine and calls for a review of foreign policy to “prevent Russian aggression“.

In a letter sent to the minister, the Association asks the minister to “review Portugal’s foreign policy in order to avoid the continuation of the barbaric and ruthless Russian aggression.”

For the Association, only with a “joint and intransigent force will the Russians release the prisoners and the territory they occupied in Ukraine“.

The letter, signed by the president of the Association, Pavlo Sadokha, also highlights that at this stage of the war, the Portuguese Government has always been on the side of the Ukrainian people, both in Ukraine and in hosting refugees.

“On his last visit to kyiv, on the day of Ukraine’s independence, His Excellency showed his courage and solidarity with the Ukrainian peoplewhen Russian forces threatened new acts of aggression,” it is mentioned.

The Association recalls that the Russian Federation “continues to ignore any international agreement on the way prisoners of war are treated”.

“On August 31, Your Excellency decided to support, within the framework of the European Union, the end of the process of facilitating visas for Russian citizens to the European Union. Notwithstanding the objective of such a measure, from the perspective of all our compatriots in Ukraine, it does not prevent the continuation of suffering, deaths, violations and victims of Russian aggression,” the letter stresses.

In the opinion of the Association, everything that consists of “commitmentsby the West only increases Vladimir Putin’s conviction that “he manages to get through unscathed regardless of the brutality of his actions.”
