The Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abrunhosa, said this Friday, in Guarda, that the damage surveys for the fire in the Serra da Estrela were advanced in relation to the initial deadline and will be ready on Monday.

At the end of a meeting with the mayors of the region, held in the Paços do Concelho da Guarda building, the minister told reporters that at the meeting it was communicated that the sectoral loss surveys will be ready on Monday and that they will then be “delivered to CCDR [Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional do Centro]who will make a final global report”.

“We advanced, in view of the provisions of the Resolution of the Council of Ministers, the deadline for assessing the damage, because we immediately began to work in the territory with the mayors, I am talking about the various sectors, in this evaluation,” he declared.

Ana Abrunhosa said that the report will be known as soon as the Government has it and after the approval of the Resolution of the Council of Ministers, “which, in essence, will validate this damage and the measures” to “confront the damage” of the fire. .

The official spoke to journalists at the end of a meeting with the mayors of the municipalities of the Intermunicipal Community of Beiras and Serra da Estrela (CIM-BSE) for a joint analysis of the situation resulting from the latest fires.

The Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, the Secretary of State for Regional Development, Isabel Ferreira, the Secretary of State for Local Administration and Territorial Planning, Carlos Miguel, and the Secretary of State for Civil Protection, Patricia Gaspar.

Serra da Estrela was affected by a fire that broke out on August 6 in Garrocho, in the municipality of Covilhã (Castelo Branco district) and was dismissed on the 13th.

The fire was reactivated on the 15th and was considered controlled again on the 17th of the same month, at night.

The flames spread to the district of Guarda, in the municipalities of Manteigas, Gouveia, Guarda and Celorico da Beira, and also reached the municipality of Belmonte, in the district of Castelo Branco.

On the 25th, the Government approved the declaration of a calamity situation for the PNSE, which has been affected by fires since July, as requested by the mayors of the affected territories.

The calamity situation has already been published in the Diário da República and will be in force for a period of one year, with the “objective of restoring normality in the respective geographical area.”
