PCP wants to debate with the Government in the Assembly of the Republic on Wednesday about the increase in the cost of living

The PCP will propose a debate on Wednesday in the Permanent Commission of Parliament, with the presence of the Government, on the increase in the cost of living and the benefits of the large economic groups.

In a proposal sent to the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, the communists propose that the Permanent Commission -a body that meets outside the effective period of operation of the Assembly of the Republic- convene the Government of António Costa for a discussion on Wednesday. .

The proposal, signed by the parliamentary leader of the PCP, Paula Santos, takes place on the day that the Government will approve a package of measures to support families, to respond to the effects of inflation, which is expected to be around two thousand million euros, according to press reports published in various newspapers.

The Council of Ministers approves this Monday measures to support families

The communists want the parliament to discuss with the government the increase in the cost of living for the Portuguese, the growth in the profits of economic groups and the “aggravation of inequalities”.

The PCP considers that it is only possible to counteract inflationary pressure with an increase in salaries and pensions and with limits to the rental market and housing benefits.

The party favors a tax on windfall profits for the largest companies, which can be channeled to mitigate the effects of inflation.

If it occurs, the debate will take place after the measures announced by the Government, which should be approved this Monday at an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers.
