The Minister of Territorial Cohesion went to the Socialist Academy, a PS initiative for young people, to warn of the “loss of power” that regionalization will entail and how this is making “many people” uncomfortable. And also to attack the PSD for hang the advance of the reform that the socialists had inscribed in the electoral program.
Ana Abrunhosa believes that the mandate received in the elections -the absolute majority- would be more than enough to advance in regionalization, if the Constitution did not make the reform conditional on the holding of a referendum. Change the Constitution? This “requires an agreement between the largest forces in the party,” the minister replied. At the other end of the debate, the socialist mayor and president of the National Association of Municipalities Luísa Salgueiro added that “the Portuguese population must be listened to”.
