Costa throws Moscow to the UN and calls for an independent investigation of war crimes

The Portuguese prime minister spoke this Thursday at the 77th UN General Assembly in New York and began with an attack on Putin’s Russia. Regarding the current conflict, António Costa began by defending an “independent, impartial and transparent investigation so that the crimes committed don’t go unpunished“, referring to war crimes that have been denounced by Ukraine and attributed to the Russian military.

To Russia, the Portuguese prime minister said that “hostilities must cease and allow the creation of a serious and sustained dialogue, oriented towards a ceasefire and peace”. And he specifically referred to nuclear threats, which appeared in the most recent speech by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. “This is not the time for Russia to escalate the conflict or make irresponsible threats to resort to nuclear weapons,” he said on the matter.
