The parliamentary leader of the PCP defended this Tuesday that the government’s proposal for salary increases for the public function “not only does not respond” to the loss of purchasing power, but “even aggravates it”, insisting on the valorization of careers.

The communist leader spoke to journalists in the Assembly of the Republic in reaction to the The Executive’s proposal for the public function of salary increases between 8% and 2%, with a guarantee of a minimum of around 52 euros per year until 2026.
“What is needed is the replacement and valorization of the purchasing power of public administration workers, the valorization of their careers, of progressions,” he defended.
In the opinion of Paula Santos, valuing the career and the remuneration of the civil service allows “not only the valorization of these workers from the point of view of their rights, but also the creation of conditions from the point of view of developmentimprovement of the provision of the public service in the different sectors of the public administration”.
Questioned by journalists, The parliamentary leader refused to comment on the controversy involving the Minister of Health, Manuel Pizarrowho this Monday, after a TVI report, issued a statement in which he said he was “aware” of the incompatibility of his position in the Government with the management of a company in the health area, highlighting that he had already started “the process of its dissolution”.
The Government proposed this Monday to the public administration unions wage increases of between 8% and 2%, with a guarantee of a minimum of around 52 euros.
This new update mechanism is multi-year, valid until 2026, although some revisions may occur each year, depending on the economic and financial reality of the country, the Minister of the Presidency told Lusa.
In 2022, most of the 740 thousand public servants had salary increases of 0.9%, in line with the inflation observed in 2021, without deflation.
The Minister of the Presidency, Mariana Vieira da Silva, said on Monday that there is room to improve the salary increase proposal for the civil service, admitting “small blows”, but highlighted the budgetary effort that the current document already contemplates.
The Government’s proposal for the State Budget for 2023 will be delivered next Monday (10) to the Assembly of the Republic.
